Memorial Day Writing Prompt

Today is Memorial Day in the United States.  While it's also the unofficial start to summer and a great time for families to grill out or head to the beach, it is also and most importantly a day to remember the sacrifices of the men and women who have served in our armed forces throughout our history.

To that end, for today's prompt:

Write a short story involving a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine.
